This is the more personal half of what we publish. The books in the Guild Travel Library are researched over weeks and written to be read before you go; the Log is what our Explorers send back while they are still on the road — shorter, dated, and usually about one thing rather than a whole country. A neighbourhood that turned out to be the right place to sleep. A ferry timetable that quietly rearranged a week. A month that was the wrong month for the migration, and the one that would have been right.

What is the Travel Log, and how is it different from the Guild Travel Library?
The Guild Travel Library holds the books: long, researched country and city guides that take weeks to put together and are meant to be read before you go. The Travel Log holds everything in between. A dispatch is short, it is dated, and it is written by whoever was actually standing in the place — usually about one thing rather than a whole country: which Tokyo neighbourhood to sleep in, how the Cyclades ferries really connect, which month puts you alongside the migration in the Serengeti. Think of the Library as the shelf and the Log as the postcards tucked into the back of the books.
How many dispatches are there so far, and where do the “Read more” links go?

Can I write a dispatch for the Travel Log?
Yes. The Log exists to carry first-hand notes from people who were there, and we take submissions from travellers who are not on staff. What we look for, how long a dispatch should run and how to send one are set out on Become a Guild Reporter. Short and specific beats long and general: one neighbourhood, one ferry route, one month of the year, written the way you would tell a friend who is about to make the same trip.
