Is Agadir an old Moroccan city or a modern beach resort?
Agadir is a modern seaside resort rather than a historic medina city. The old town was destroyed by the 1960 earthquake and the city was rebuilt below the hill, so what you find today is a long crescent of sand, a wide promenade and large pool-and-spa hotels. The rebuilt Kasbah walls still look down from the hill above. If it is winding medina lanes and souks you are after, Marrakech or Essaouira will suit you better; if it is reliable Atlantic sunshine and a beach you can walk from your room, Agadir is the point.
Should I stay on the beach promenade, near the marina, or out at Taghazout Bay?
The promenade is the easy choice: hotels sit directly behind the sand with cafes and restaurants along the front, and you can walk to dinner.
